American and European Lifestyle Differences

There are some surprising lifestyle differences between how Americans and Europeans live their lives. But you can only distinguish these differences when you encounter by comparing one location to another. Consequently, these lifestyle differences also affect other things like the businesses and the products that they offer. This is to address the specific needs of people as dictated by their lifestyle.

The Size of Cars

Image via Wikipedia

Cars driven in the United States, on average, are much bigger than those driven in Europe. Anyone coming the US finds this difficult to adjust to at first as it is so out of the ordinary outside the country. However, over time they come to appreciate that the larger vehicles make sense since we have adapted to larger vehicles with larger spaces throughout our cities. This kind of mental adjustment goes beyond just vehicles, of course, as everything in the United States seems to be bigger to those not used to the pace and size this country has adopted. It is evident in everything from the size of meals we order in restaurants to the amount of money we might borrow from cash advance lenders.

In terms of culture shock, it is important if you have foreign clients to take this size difference into consideration if you are going to pick them up at the airport. Be sensitive to the difference this makes to your guest.

Plastic Consumption

Compared to other countries in the world the United States uses a great deal more plastic in packaging. This becomes quite apparent at supermarkets. When a foreigner opens a cardboard box it is often surprising to find the product within still encased in plastic. The idea of ziplock bags is quite surprising to our foreign neighbors though we’re quite lost without them. After considering our fascination for double wrapping items in plastic, many foreign markets wonder just how much packaging material is required when sending their goods to the U.S.

Recycling

Americans feel that they are greener than ever before, recycling plastic and paper. The truth of the matter is that compared to our European counterparts, we are barely scratching the surface.  In most cases they have 3 different garbage cans to collect the different kinds of waste, they hand deliver glass objects as well as newspaper to special areas in town and they use vegetable matter as compost for their gardens. This kind of commitment is admirable but would take a lot more time and trouble than most Americans might be willing to exert.  We actually think we’re doing are part by participating in any recycling efforts at all.

Washing Machine Cycle Times

This may surprise many in the U.S., but most washing machines in Europe have much longer wash cycles. On average the wash cycle may take an hour and possibly two in France or England. In the U.S. our longest cycles are closer to 20 minutes.  Perhaps this is due to the fast-paced lifestyle Americans follow, that they can’t afford to lose precious minutes just waiting for their laundry to get done.

Harley Davidson Bikes and Its Brief History

My father in law loves motorbikes. He breathes them, well, I might be exaggerating but he has been buying and selling bikes since he was in College. He particularly adores Harley davidson bikes and so I have a brief idea of its history. Like any other bike lovers, this love started in a childhood friendship between William Harley and Arthur Davidson and they build their first motor engine in 1901. Accomplished in 1903, the humble engine worked ran with a bicycle frame. After this first masterpiece, the real true Harley was built in the year 1904. With bigger engine, bulkier frame and more speed, this motorcycle was named the official Harley, unlike the first prototype that ran with a bicycle frame.

Tire Maintenance for Harley Davidson Bikes

Harley motorcycles are very popular among all age groups. When it comes to motorcycles, Harleys Davidson bikes are known to be reliable and gives excellent performance. If you own a Harley, it is important to keep it well maintained to prolong its life and to make sure that its value increases over the years. Before you put numerous Harley Davidson accessories, it is important that you know how to take care of your Harley. Just like most vehicles, the tires are some of the most important parts to maintain. Below are some tips in tire maintenance.

Tread. It is important to regularly check the tread wear of your Harley’s tires. Make sure they are not beyond the safe wear limits to ensure a safe driving experience for you. Make sure that tire does not reach its built-in tread wear bars because a worn tire will puncture easily. Also, check the sidewall for cracking.
Air. All tires normally lose some air over time. Check your motorcycle’s tire pressure on a regular basis to make sure that they always have enough. Underinflated tire may cause abnormal tire wear and affect handling of the bike. In worst case scenarios, you may have tire failure because of heat buildup in the tire.

Benefits of Getting Cheap Car Insurance

Having your own car and driving it bring such feelings of satisfaction to many people. Until that first accident. It is inevitable that you and your car will get into an accident in the future if you have not yet been in an accident. Accidents can happen because of you or the other car’s driver. Sometimes it could even be both your faults. In situations like these, you would realize that there is reason and logic behind getting cheap car insurance. ”

If you are still unsure whether you need to get cheap auto insurance, below are some other things to convince you.

Protection from collision. Most cheap car insurance policies come with collision coverage. You will not have to worry about paying for repairs to your car.
Protection from medical expenses. If car damage repairs are expensive enough, medical expenses are even more so.
Protection from non-accidents. A lot of things could damage your car, not just accidents. A comprehensive insurance will cover your car from floods, theft, vandalism, and fire.
Protection from uninsured. In cases when the other car involved in the accident has no insurance, you are protected from any claims for damages to their car.
• Peace of mind. There is nothing quite like driving with the knowledge that your car is insured and you are protected from anything that could happen.

Knowing more about vehicle wraps

While searching for a possible place to have our car repainted, I came across vehicle wraps in one of the entries I was looking at. It caught my interest so I checked several sources to find out what these wraps are. Here are some of the things I discovered.

Wrapping material

Car wraps are made of laminate materials. They’re not like any regular stickers that you apply onto your vehicles. Each individual wrap is digitally printed and meticulously applied to the vehicle. However, application is usually temporary. Most car wrappings can be removed and replaced with different designs without causing any damages to the paint of the vehicle, like an extra skin of some sort.

Advertisement medium

Vehicle wraps are not just used for aesthetic purposes. Although there are a lot of wrappings being sold now specifically for decorative functions, car wraps were initially used as a form of advertisement. Companies pay car wrapping manufacturers to print their logos, brands, or ads on the wrapping which vehicles would parade around while they are driven to and from work or home. It’s one of the most popular and most effective forms of advertising because it works 24 hours a day nonstop, and reaches almost anywhere your car can travel to.

I’ve seen plenty of the designs from online sources and frankly speaking, I’m quite interested. Perhaps, when I find the appropriate design, I’ll give it a try.

The Best way to Shop for a new Car

If you’re like most people, you don’t look forward to shopping for a new car. Even if you know exactly which make and model you would like to buy, each one comes with so many available options that it’s virtually impossible to comparison shop from one dealership to the next. When it comes to pricing, the confusion only grows. There’s the sticker price, the invoice price, dealer cost, markups, markdowns, rebates, delivery fees, extended warranty costs, undercoatings, and a million other price points to consider.

While no one wants to buy a new car without driving it first, you can certainly use easier methods to narrow down your choices. If your heart is set on one specific car, visit the manufacturer’s website to find the suggested price and the cost of each option that appeals to you. This is also a great way to research those expensive options to decide what you need and what you should avoid. Without doing this before you reach the dealership, it’s easy to become confused and overwhelmed when you’re faced with 100 cars that are almost, but not quite, the same.

If you’re not sure what type of car you would like to buy, services like TrueCar are available to help you narrow down your choices. In addition to choosing the type of car that you think you would like to buy, you can enter your zip code to find out exactly what people in your area paid for specific cars. Armed with this knowledge, you have everything that you need to successfully negotiate with the salesperson at the car dealership. Instead of waiting for them to run back and forth to see what kind of discount their imaginary manager will offer, you have firm information at your disposal to make an offer and stick with it.

Car Choices

Car choices are extremely a person’s strong preference for a particular car model, type and built. I for one prefer the SUV models over any other primarily because I have a big family and we travel long hours if we go out. Comfort and safety are my top priorities when it comes to choosing a car. I prefer it to be in the color black, but it doesn’t matter as much as its price.

For example, I have been lusting for the Ford Everest ever since I had the chance to ride one a year ago and I was pleasantly surprised that it was nowhere near a ford expedition price! The 2010 model costs between $35,585 – $48,590. The Ford Expedition is a full-size sport-utility vehicle, based on the same architecture and powertrains that also make up the Ford F-150 and the Lincoln Navigator.

Here are some SUVs that are on my wishlist:

From L-R: Ford Expedition; Toyota Highlander, Lexus RH 450h;  Volkswagen Tiguan
*All of these are 2010 models.

The cheapest among the four is the volkswagen tiguan retailing from $23,200 – $33,500. The toyota highlander price is cheaper than a lexus rx 450h price, with the Highlander retailing from $25,855 – $34,670 and a Lexus at $42,685 – $44,275.

The Tiguan and Lexus gets the highest reviews among the four vehicles, earning an 8.4 from CarConnection.com’s reviewers.

Here is what they have to say, bottom line:

The 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan targets vehicles like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, but outshines them with its sophistication.

The 2010 Lexus RX 450h pleases green do-gooders and upscale shopaholics alike. Driving enthusiasts, though, should look elsewhere.

I am Peggy and I love to delight and amuse myself with anything artistically visual. I spend many hours on Etsy and either send money, get frustrated because I do not have money and wish I was talented with anything other than having the talent to spot nice things.

Which I think all people inherently have.

I love to shop. I love to window shop. Online.
